BanQualifiedImmunity.com is an educational resource dedicated to ending qualified immunity—a judge-made doctrine that shields government officials from accountability when they violate your constitutional rights.

We believe that no one should be above the law. When police officers, prison guards, or other government officials abuse their power, victims deserve their day in court. Qualified immunity stands in the way of that basic principle of justice.

Why This Matters

Qualified immunity isn't some obscure legal technicality—it's a doctrine that affects real people every day. Parents who lost children to police violence. Business owners whose property was destroyed in raids. Citizens who were beaten, robbed, or violated by the very officials sworn to protect them.

Courts routinely dismiss these cases not because the officials acted lawfully, but because no prior case established that their specific type of misconduct was unconstitutional. It's a Catch-22 that makes accountability nearly impossible.

Qualified immunity wasn't created by Congress or written into the Constitution. It was invented by the Supreme Court in 1967 and expanded ever since. What courts created, courts—or Congress—can undo.

Our Goals

We work to educate the public about qualified immunity and its consequences. Most Americans have never heard of this doctrine, yet it affects everyone's civil rights. Through clear explanations, real case studies, and actionable resources, we aim to build the public support necessary for reform.

We support legislative efforts at both the federal and state level to eliminate or reform qualified immunity. Colorado, New Mexico, and New York City have already taken steps to restore accountability. We believe every state should follow.

Our Connection

This site is a project of the Ohio Coalition to End Qualified Immunity, a grassroots organization working to reform qualified immunity in Ohio and support federal legislation to end it nationwide.
